Staying the course?
As more photographs of the gross misconduct of certain individuals in our military occupational force in Iraq are released, President Bush seems to feel that there is some manner of dissention in the Republican ranks concerning the debacle. Today he met with Republican members of both the senate and house to gently inform them to stay the course.
What does this mean?
I understand that very often in matters of governmental policy, new terms and phrases are given birth to bamboozle the masses and rally the thoughtless into unabashed nationalism. This is also the rule in big business, which has found a highway into our democracy to traffic its political and social contraband. Big business and politically corrupted officials have never shared a bed so cozy.
To stay the course, does President Bush portend to continue the steady and, more recently, abrupt declination of our “peaceful” presence in Iraq? Does our commander-in-chief insinuate that our course has sailed so true that what comes in our path will only be beneficial? I think not. Staying the course means the sure and unremitted raping of the Iraqis, the burning of the cradle of civilization, and the milking of a culture thousands of years old: all this for the glory of money, the devotion of patriotic pride, and the blessings of God almighty.
Arrogance.
