Now that the Democratic Convention has passed and we’ve all had a chance to digest what we’ve heard and seen. It’s time to act.

Firstly, as a Democrat, I feel that fellow Democrats and independents against Bush need to organize further and take to our streets.  John Kerry as well as a rather large handful of fellow politicians hit the American public with a loaded punch last week and the wake continues to ripple our fertile land.  I’m not so sure that the American public has been hit with such force from our country’s leaders in quite a few years.  Barack Obama, Rev. Al Sharpton, Gen. Wesley Clark, President Bill Clinton, Rev. James Forbes, and, of course, Ilana Wexler showed us all that the people are prepared to take back what is ours.  We are prepared to not only push John Kerry into office, but we are also prepared to work for the great promise of America’s future by insuring that we work with this new administration to make sure that what benefits us as Americans is truly enacted.  True grass roots Democracy has been awakened and President Bush must be shaking in his trousers.

Secondly, as a consumer, I feel that we must push, and push hard, indeed, for media reform.  A large part of this country’s problem is media control, or, rather, the excessive populace control that our media networks are exercising more often and with increasing force.  A simple illustration of this epedemic was last week’s convention.  During the slow summer months, the airwaves have always been full of television junk; typical garbage for us to vegetate to while the heat keeps us indoors.  Last week, all the major networks felt the need to show only what they must of the Democratic Convention (foregoing some of the most riveting, and amazing speeches of the entire week), because the projected ratings didn’t pull enough advertisers.  Let’s examine this premise.  Advertisers typically do not bring out the big advertising guns during the summer simply because audiences drop.  People are outside, driving, playing, swimming, vacationing and there is, relatively speaking, no one to watch these advertisements.  Now, our summers are filled with the junkiest of shows: reality programming.  Now, my question to these networks is this: If you are so worried that you would lose advertisements by not showing your reality television, why would you not show the most true form of reality television and look good by performing a public service by broadcasting most, if not all, of the Democratic convention?  Are the privileged with access to C-Span the only people allowed to weigh in on our country’s direction?  Is it really the money?  Or is it the few corporations that own all of you and your poison filled mouths that are so scared of the populist uprising?

Thirdly, and lastly, as a person I feel that we must push for the rescue of our very basic rights.  As a man with a family I know that George W. Bush does not represent us.  His continuous lying about our education system turn-around, our growing economy, our successful wars abroad, the strength of our national security, our growing freedoms, our blossoming liberties, and our communion of faith in his God are all lies of the very worst kind.  His manipulation of our country and its laws is the stuff of despotic dictatorships gone even more awry.  Be vigilant, o’ people of the United States, because a forked tongue never speaks to heal and never comforts the wounded.  Be wary, my friends, for a man of God does not kill for profit and without remorse.  A man of God does not give to the rich while stepping on us poor.  A man of God does not ever lie to his brother for his own gain.  A man of God does not wear his faith on his shoulder.

In summary, last week’s convention supplied many Americans with the fuel to move against this tide of lies and deceit.  The liberals have come forth again to reclaim its mighty position as the great movers of the people.  Beware you corporations, you lying politicians, you Christians that know not your own faith for we, the people, have begun to move against you and the day is at hand that our liberties will be ours, our freedoms will be ours, our military forces will be ours, our businesses and the economy will be ours, and our God will be ours.  Take to the streets!
