The day after the elections most networks claimed that the youth, after all the Democrats’ hard work (said with some condescension), just couldn’t produce the minority and youth vote.  Liars.  Here is a story that includes the following stats:

According to professor William Galston at the University of Maryland, at least 20.9 million Americans under 30 voted on Tuesday. That is an increase of 4.6 million voters from 2000. Four years ago, just 42.3 percent of young people voted. This year more than 51.6 percent did.

The networks immediately jumped on the youth and minority vote because, as is becoming more and more apparent, the youth of Ohio and the black vote in general were the focus for Republican challenges.  In addition, they were also the two groups that, more than likely, were the voters that -oops!- did not end up on the registered voters roll when they even had registration cards to prove so.  Tell me there is no fraud here!  Perhaps votes have gotten lost here and there and problems with counting have been consistent issues for as long as we have voted.  This does not mean that the issues at hand are a bunch of mistakes and errors.  This election was fraudulent because there was a concerted effort by Republicans to make sure that Bush would win.  Period.  This movement enlisted corporate CEOs (and their corporations, i.e. Diebold), lobbyists, local republican groups, and…the Evangelical Christians.

Now, there was a major push for the Evangelical Christian vote.  This may have counted for something.  The way I see it, at some point during the day on November 2nd, word got out that the exit polls favored John Kerry heavily.  So, in order to make sure that gay people wouldn’t have their basic rights and to make sure their Bibles wouldn’t be taken by men in black they ran into the streets screaming towards the polls (much like in the Chris Rock movie, “Head of State,” when the white suburbanites heard that there was probably going to be a black president.).  Just an observation there.  Nothing like wishing fire and brimstone upon others while you cackle in your heaven-bound happiness to bring out the vote.
