I just read an opinion piece by former CBS correspondent Eric Engberg attacking the validity of blogging.  The article basically surmounts blogging to student newspaper hackery or a CB “gabfest”.  Mr. Engberg says bloggers, “not only don’t care about the veracity of the stories they are spreading, they do not understand when there is a live hand grenade on their keyboard. They appear not to care. Their concern is for controversy and ‘hits.’”

Well sir, what do the major media networks truly care for if not “hits” (look at your own Dan Rather!)?  I mean, would these networks still prevail if it weren’t for ad revenue?  Which let me remind you Mr. Engberg is a DIRECT result of readership (or viewership).  Isn’t the television ratings system based on what essentially is “hits”?  Correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe newspapers, radio, television, and blogs wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for people paying attention to them. Or would they? If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody around, does it make a sound?  I guess according to Engberg if it’s a corporate controlled media giant it might…

Blogging As Typing, Not Journalism
