I nearly cried on my way home from work today. NPR’s All Things Considered co-host Michelle Norris interviewed producer/director of HBO’s Last Letters Home, Bill CouturiĆ©. I could tell just by listening that both Norris and CouturiĆ© were having troubles holding back tears whilst listening to clips from the film. It was quite an emotional interview (as you might imagine). Actually it was emotional enough to boil anger.
I’ve tried not to let my feelings pour out into cyberspace but after listening to NPR this evening I can’t withstand it any longer. I’m sick and tired of poking fun at our “poor dumb” president. He’s not dumb. He intended to start this war on day one. He baited and switched and successfully pulled a fast one on every one of you gullible supporters. But I’m done blaming him. We DO live in a democracy don’t we? It’s time to tell the real story. The citizens of this country ignorant enough to vote for Bush this time OR last MUST watch this film! Because it’s time to share in the grief of what YOU caused. It’s time to accept responsibility, wade through their catharsis and tears. YOU CAUSED THIS WAR! Not Bush, not Cheney, not Rumsfeld, YOU! By blindly supporting a killer and convincing yourself of a fallacy or simply motivated by your own greed you have caused mothers, daughters, sons, fathers, brothers, and sisters to dread answering their door in fear that THIS time two men in uniform will deliver the words you’d rather die than hear!
I implore you! Watch this film! It’s the least you can do for all the death you’ve caused. It’s time to bone up to your decisions. It’s time to see what a fool you are!
