Jeff noted a while back that some Indymedia servers were confiscated in the UK by the FBI.  This resulted in Indymedia sites going down for over 30 countries.

There’s an update on the story in which the US government claims that Indymedia hard drives were seized as part of an international “criminal terrorism investigation,” and thus the U.S. District Court’s gag order should be upheld.

The entire situation seems rather fishy and poses quite a blow to free media worldwide.  Hopefully individuals hosting sites actively dissenting against the US will use this as an opportunity to unite and fight against our loss of digital liberties with the USA Patriot Act.  We must voice our free speech rights which can trump these feeble attempts at gagging the dissent.  If we don’t react now we might lose more of our rights on the internet like we lost all our rights on the airwaves…
