Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall
There is something so mesmerizing about Frank Gehry’s “sculptural” architecture. Last winter, while in LA, I had the opportunity to explore the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Gehry’s first major public commission in his hometown. Situated in the historic Bunker Hill district, it’s hoped that this building will serve as a stimulus for revitalization efforts in the downtown – similar to the “Bilbao effect” that followed his creation in Spain.
I’m just now finding the time to edit and print negatives from my visit. Here are few:

The firm uses CATIA, a three-dimensional computer modeling program originally designed for the aerospace industry, to document designs and to rationalize the bidding, fabrication, and construction process. This program is supplemented by more traditional two-dimensional CAD programs.
The combination of model building and mockup capabilities, materials research, and the application of advanced computer systems and construction techniques allows Gehry Partners to develop designs, in a rational process, that reach beyond the traditional limits of architecture. Gehry Technologies
