On this Christmas Eve, I leave you with these beautiful words from a 16th Century Swedish carol (written in Latin) entitled Gaudete:

Gaudete, gaudete!

Christus est natus ex maria virgine

Gaudete!

Tempus adest gratiae

hoc quod optabamus

carmine leticiae

devote reddamus

Gaudete, gaudete!

Christus est natus ex maria virgine

Gaudete!

Ezechielis porta

clausa pertransitur

unde lus est orta

salus invenitur

Gaudete, gaudete!

Christus est natus ex maria virgine

Gaudete!

Ergo nostra concio

psallat iam in lustro

Benedicat Domino

salus Regi nostro

Gaudete, gaudete!

Christus est natus ex maria virgine

Gaudete!

I was originally introduced to this piece of extraordinary beauty by my daughter, Delphina, who has been singing this as part of her choir practice at Trinity Cathedral.  I soon after, by chance, came across a most beautiful version of this performed by the Boston Camerata on their CD, A Renaissance Christmas
