More on Rolling Over
In order to succeed in the fight not only to bring the Republicans down, but to bring the Democrats out of their cess pool of fear and resignment, Democratic senators and representatives need to stop acting like they need to work with Republicans to fix this nation. This is an absurd notion. I look at the current Democratic party as a little kid that gets beat up by the Republican bullies. After a while the Democrats come back with their tails between their legs wanting to be the bullies’ friends so that they can avoid the future beatings. Then, as many could tell except for the Democrats, they get beat to hell again. This is not turning out to be political, it is evolving into a psychological study of the bully/pee-on relationship.
We do not need to hear such pussyfooting such as what was displayed today by Joe Lieberman (courtesy of CNN):
“I’ve always believed that our responsibility to advise and consent does not mean that we have to agree with every opinion or every action that the nominee has ever taken,” Lieberman said in his opening remarks.
“Our responsibility is to determine whether the nominee is fit for the position … and whether the nominee, in our judgment, will serve in the national interest. And of course I conclude that Dr. Condoleezza Rice meets that standard at least and much more.”
We need to hear more in the form of (courtesy of Yahoo):
Kennedy, of Massachusetts, keyed the Democratic attack with charges that Rice, as Bush’s national security adviser, provided Congress with “false reasons” for going to war. Had she not, he said in a speech, “it might have changed the course of history.”
Sen. Mark Dayton (news, bio, voting record), D-Minn., following up, accused the Bush administration of lying and said he was voting against Rice’s confirmation as a way of trying to stop mistruths.
And Sen. Carl Levin (news, bio, voting record), D-Mich., charged she concealed the Central Intelligence Agency (news – web sites)’s skepticism that Iraq was trying to obtain uranium for a nuclear weapons program from Africa.
I don’t say this just because I disagree with Senator Lieberman. I say this because he is allowing a proven liar to move into a position of great power and just because she has the President’s confidence does not make her a better person. If anything, it makes her and the entire administration more suspect. Now, hopefully, behind these words we have Senators that will vote the way that was paved by their language. As evidenced in the recent past, this more than likely not come to pass. I am not looking for enough people to deny her confirmation. No, I am looking for representatives of the liberal truth seeker to stand their ground even if it will not change a damned thing.
