First Amendment Goes “Too Far”

It turns out the First Amendment is a second-rate issue to many of those nearing their own adult independence, according to a study of high school attitudes released Monday.
Wow…that is disturbing. But when I think back to my high school days I had only a vague notion of where I stood politically on most issues. (and now I’m in law school!) I barely connected the idea that the rights proscribed by the Constitution were more than just idealistic prose…it seemed to me that the government could take away rights and give them back with ease. Now that I’m older I see that it is easy for the government to take away rights, but giving them back once there gone is next to impossible.
That is the main reason why people need to fight to keep their rights…obviously this study shows a great threat to the future of maintaining control over our rights.
We need better education now more than ever, but studies like this show the neo-cons in power that the more they cut education funds the more likely they’ll be able to push their agenda past the uneducated masses. Oh the problems our generation faces are so damn pressing, it is hard to stay inspired.
