Jon Johansen, aka DVD Jon, has created an application that allows music fans to download DRM free iTunes Music Store tracks!

For those of you technically inept, DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management.  iTunes uses DRM to prevent iTMS tracks from playing on more than three machines.  There has always been a work-around by simply burning the iTMS tracks (with DRM) to CD then re-encoding that same CD.  But with any lossy conversion there’s possible quality issues.

DVD Jon’s application circumvents DRM by allowing the user to download iTMS tracks outside of iTunes.  It seems iTunes actually adds DRM upon completion of each downloaded track.  His application is called PyMusique, currently the server to download it is being hit really hard, if your interested you may have a wait in front of you.
