A Short Rant
Is there nothing else going on in our country or across the globe? Are the majority of Americans this easily duped and blinded?
The Schiavo hospice case is a personal moral decision, not grounds for governmental involvement or legislation. Steroids in Baseball have nothing to do with the general public and resides within the power (or the lack of exercise of this power) of the league. Michael Jackson? I have nothing to add to that. And, finally, pills for super sex. However distasteful the commercials may be, I dislike my tax money being used to legislate proper times for the airing of this garbage.
There is still a war, my friends. There are dirty deals being made to undermine our financial security. Democrats are still falling down in the face of corporatism. Republicans are still pushing the empire.
Here we are. Slaves to the media.
The hilarity of this whole Schiavo case is Bush’s 1AM rush (on Easter break no-less!) to sign a bill simply for the press. This is the same guy that ignored the huge global numbers massing against the war on Iraq. Didn’t he say something along the lines of, “That’s just a focus group, I’m not going to make policy decisions based on a focus group.”
Here’s something for you. Terri Schiavo received Medicaid. Under the Bush 2006 budget plan, Medicaid spending during the next five years would grow about 7.2 percent a year. Without the cut, it will grow by 7.4 percent a year. How’s that for irony!
Here’s the Republican policy on Schiavo in a nutshell:
“Save her life” as long as it gets good press and motivates our base. Oh, and cut funding to the same program that has kept her alive this long while the media has its back turned.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe my ears when, for the first time in his entire presidency, mind you, President Bush left vacation early. This includes any vacations taken post-9/11, the bombing of Afghanistan, the War on Iraq, the tragic Southeast Asian tsunami, and any other issue of importance in this country or the world. He feels a need to advertise that this nation is of a “culture of life” that it looks insane to most people outside of his base that he’s even getting remotely involved in Teri Schiavo’s existence, in the first place.
What is even more backward is that in Texas, a law was recently passed that basically says that if you can’t afford hospital care for terminally ill patients and are on the dole, then the plug must be pulled. HOW BACKWARD IS THIS?!?! HOW RACIST IS THIS?!?!
Not to beat a dead horse but, governer of Texas + death penalty = Hypocritical anyone? I mean, come on! If the man wants to propagate a “culture of life” he should have started by pardoning every death row inmate by changing their sentences to say, “life” in prison. Ha, get it! OK, bad joke.

The Politicization of Terri Schiavo
If it’s all about life, why aren’t we involved in Sudan?
Thanks Kim.
It really is disgusting that politicians are using the Schiavo case as a means for furthering a twisted political agenda (hmm, mid-term elections?). What happened to the seperation of powers??? This really was my nightmare; Republicans in control of all three branches of government and they completely abuse the power! The Schiavo case brings forth a solid moral debate, however, let’s keep it at that and not destroy the foundations of our government while addressing the matter. So much for big government, eh Bushy? For that, I really feel sorry for Terri Schiavo. She doesn’t deserve to be a political pawn.
