Systm
Kevin Rose of TechTV’s The Screen Savers and G4’s Attack of the Show fame is jumping ship from G4 to pursue Systm. Similiar to TheBroken, Systm is a technology based show brought to you by many former Screen Savers cast members. Some of the same cast members post to This Week in Tech a technology based blog. Systm is distributed under Creative Commons licensing and is completely free to download through BitTorrent in multiple formats.
I’m posting this because I credit Kevin Rose and many of the former TechTV crew with spreading a lot of progressive ideas surrounding open source, licensing, etc… These individuals along with other “techies” represent today what KRS-One, Public Enemy, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and other groups represented in the early 1980’s. Their press toward individual rights surrounding technology is paramount to how the industry will be shaped.
I encourage you to swing by Systm and download episode 1. Support the cause!
I’ve tried watching TechTV, but I can’t really get into the programming. I find it much easier to read about new technological developments on the web. Are there any other interesting shows on TechTV?
TechTV is pretty much worthless since G4 purchased the network. Rumour has it, that’s one of the main reasons Kevin Rose jumped ship.
I would sadly be forced to agree. It all started back when G4 owned might I add by comcast purchased the company and fired most of the production crew, and from what I’ve heard moved the whole thing down to LA. Now, I’ve only heard this from what was said in Maximum PC, but I think it was terrible, when Patric Norton and Leo Lapore left Tech TV and The Screen Savers and Call For Help. I heard Leo didn’t want to move away from his family and the comutes were well, hell. As such that was the begining of the end. I suspect that G4 wouldn’t let the guys at tech tv do what they wanted, you know be creative. As such the entire thing went to hell in a hand basket. I hope that somehow, someday, all things can be alleviated and all the greats from tech tv can come together, and find new creative people, pull them together and make a new network that will be better than ever before. And with all this new technology out there, it wil be entierly possible.
