The Un-Churched
“If our target and our mission is to reach the unchurched, basically the people who don’t go to church, how likely is it that they’ll be going to church on Christmas morning?” …
Yeah, I’m not so sure that these Evangelicals understand that the word Christ is in Christmas:
All day, I’ve been trying to think of a single way in which this makes sense. It just doesn’t.
We’re in the same boat, my friend.
Because they’re a business, & not actually a church, perhaps?
That crossed my mind, but what about all the offerings they would collect if they held Mass?
Now, I’m no expert at mega-churches and their inner-workings (mainly because if I came close to one, I’d start taking a sledgehammer to it), but I do think they’re run more as a business than a traditional church. And, yes, by saying this, I do think they are as close to a for-profit business as a church can get. As far as the offerings go (if they even have such a thing during the service..not a Mass…they’ll kick your ass if you call it a Mass), you’ve got me. I think they use them to fund anything from evangelization abroad (not necessarily bringing aid to poor countries, just bringing things such as the “Jesus Movie”) to fringe conservative groups to, perhaps, themselves (how does a church become MEGA?…)? Who knows…either way, closing a church on Christmas tells me that you’re not in this for Christ and the message His birth has for all people…just a guess.
On Laguna Beach (MTV reality show) one of the kids father is a pastor at a “Mega-Church.” Not only does this “man of God” live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in America, Orange County California, but he also owns a giant yacht and resides in a brand new mansion.
I can only venture a guess were the collection plate ends up…
Exactly…
And, I know I’ve said this time and time again, but it cannot be repeated enough: mega-church style Christianity (read: non-denominational) is only used as an escape for people to feel they will be “saved” while they live lives filled with selfishness, hatred, and bigotry.
But, then, a lot of Christianity is carried out in the same manner but with different tools……..
That’s the good thing about Catholicism – they’re not afraid to tell you you’re going to Hell.
Tony, you should put that on a t-shirt.
