“I’ll take three sex scandals, two financial controversies, and one large shake.”

“Would you like fries with that?”

If the Democrats can’t take both houses of congress this time around either Diebold finally got they’re voting systems working “perfectly” or the American people are just plain stupid. I shouldn’t say that. I mean, with all the negative ads turning potential voters away from the polls who am I to add to the pool? I’m now removing my tongue firmly pressed against the inside of my cheek.

Who the hell is being turned away by negative ads? If this statement were true they wouldn’t exist. I think the reporters and pundits making this claim need to take a refresher in public relations. If negative ads weren’t rousing up bases and firing up “extremists” they wouldn’t be on TV, period. Look at the ratings for reality television or Limbaugh, O’Reilly, etc. This style of programming is the lifeblood of America. Venting frustrations from the comfort of living rooms, that’s the American way! Negative ads are made because they work. Polarization works. It’s analogous to inner city gang life. People need a place to belong, to feel empowered by their peers, to feel included and needed. Part of the attraction is to take part in demonizing the “other guy.” It’s Ohio State v. Michigan. A rivalry with no, “Well we lost but those other guys played a good game.”

How about looking at the job “your guy(s)” did? What about responsibility and self criticism? Obviously the politicians aren’t going to do it. That would be suicide. No, the responsibility rests upon us, citizens and voters. Accept your mistakes. If the guy/gal you voted for didn’t come through, admit defeat and do better next time. Beyond parties and single issues, we have to educate ourselves for compassion and humility. It doesn’t matter what your TV says. Don’t you know the revolution will not be televised?
